Fire Station Field Trip

One of our home school members husbands works at a fire department and set up a great field trip to the Fire Station for us this week! Look around and see your community for all the potential it has for learning experiences it has to offer.

All the kids had a great hand's on experience. The firefighter were wonderful and showed the children the different trucks and what they are used for. They were also able to see and ambulance and see how a firefighter gets dressed and the tools they use.

I think the best part was when they were able to sit in the fire truck!

The fire department gave them fire hats and a great bag or goodies about fire safety. The kids had a blast!
Organize your own field trip by calling a local fire station and see what they have to offer.

Apples, Apples everywhere!

We recently joined a homeschooling group that started up recently in our area. We stay connected through Facebook and are able to set up field trips based on everyone ideas and resources. Our first big field trip happened this week and it was at a small local apple orchard in town. It was finally great to meet all the other home school families.

They taught all about different squash and pumpkins!

We learned about honey , apples and apple cider. We even got to taste some!

The kids loved being able to ride on a wagon around the orchard. They were able to see the trees, the berry bushes, and pumpkin patch!

They had a great play area the kids can run around in. They also had a great little shop with Cider Donuts! Yum!

It was a wonderful trip and was so glad that the kids were able to make so many new friends, and I was able to meet a lot of other mothers who home school!

If you want to plan a trip to a local orchard, Call ahead and see if there is a group that will be going around you can join in on. Some orchards will even do  a private tour. Get a group of kids who you also know home school and make a trip of it!

Travel Prayer/Saint Cards

Even though my daughter does not read she is still learning by listening and looking at words as we read. I have started working with my daughter on learning her basic prayers, such as the Our Father and Hail Mary, etc... I was thinking of printing out the prayers on a piece of paper, which I still plan on doing, but found a smaller and more portable way to do it. This DIY project made it so she can bring her prayers along in her backpack when we go to Church or just riding in the car.

You can go to any Catholic Store or even buy online and find their shelf of prayer cards. My store charges .30 cents per paper card and .75 cents per laminated card. I decided to go with paper because I have a laminator at home. Here is a list of everything you will need for this project:

What You Need:
  • Prayer Cards (Paper or laminated)
  • A laminator for paper cards
  • Laminating Sheets
  • Book Rings
  • Paper Punch
  • Scissors

How To Make Your Travel Prayer Cards:
  1. Choose your prayer cards you want laminated and put them into your laminating sheet.
  2. Put them through the laminator.
3. You are now ready to cut out the cards.

 4. Take your hole punch and punch the corner of each card in the exact spot on each card

   5. Take you Book Ring and open it putting your card onto the ring

Now your children can have their prayers with them wherever they go!

My daughter loves these and I plan on making ones with saints also. The prayer cards can be used in so many ways and these are a great way to have your child bring God with them wherever they go. God Bless
